Getting to Bochum

Plane: The nearest major airports are Düsseldorf (DUS), Cologne/Bonn (CGN), and Frankfurt (FRA).

• Düsseldorf (DUS) and Cologne/Bonn (CGN) are reached from Bochum Hbf by regional trains (e.g. RE1/RE6/RE11 from Düsseldorf, around 40 minutes).
• Frankfurt (FRA) is reached by long-distance ICE trains, useful for intercontinental connections.

Check DB Navigator or the official railroad website for connections from all three airports.

Train: Bochum is on the German high-speed rail network (ICE/IC). See the official railroad website for schedules.

Car: The fastest route is via the Bochum/Witten motorway junction (A43/A44), exit “Bochum-Querenburg,” following signs for “Ruhr-Universität.”

Getting to the Venue

The workshop is hosted at the Max Planck Institute for Security and Privacy (MPI-SP) on the Ruhr University Bochum (RUB) campus.

Public transport: From Bochum Hbf, take the U35 subway (direction “Ruhr-Universität/Hustadt”) and get off at “Gesundheitscampus.” MPI-SP is a 5-minute walk from there.

• Single ride (Preisstufe A): €3.80
• 24-hour day ticket (Preisstufe A, 1 person): €7.60 — worth it if you’re making more than two trips that day. Buy tickets at the machines in Bochum Hbf or via the DB Navigator app before boarding.

Car: Exit Universitätsstraße at “Ruhr-Universität West” and follow signs to the Medicine Buildings until “M-Nordstraße.” Parking is available on campus in the P12/P13 garages — see RUB’s parking information.

• Holiday Inn Express Bochum — Viktoriastraße 14b, Bochum city center.

All except Schmerkötter are near Bochum Hbf, roughly 10-15 minutes from “Gesundheitscampus” via U35 rather than in walking distance.
